This chapter concludes the book with a theoretical meditation on the implications of this study. It is argued that a turn toward erotics and fetishes rather than sexuality allows analysis of sexual practice without necessitating homogeneity, helps to avoid teleological accounts of sexuality in terms of a progressive narrative, and offers a way to understand the transmission of specific fetishes through various forms of media, be it photography, film, or the internet.
