Over the past two decades, Calvin Starnes has worked as an assistant director, a grip, and most recently, a screenwriter. This interview focuses especially on his work as a grip, a career he recently quit due to his frustrations with changes in the industry. In what follows, he recounts his concerns about diversity, safety, training, work hours, and relentless budget cuts.
