    In this chapter, Whitmore tells the story of the disaster and the first weeks after the floods in June 2013. He draws attention to the ways in which the trauma of the immediate aftermath in the Kedarnath valley rendered interrelated and long-standing social, political, ritual, environmental, economic, and theological issues bound up with Kedarnath suddenly transparent to a broader public.
