The book concludes by reflecting on how the current configurations of U.S. laws and immigration enforcement system ensures that local law enforcement agencies criminalize unauthorized immigrants and contribute to their deportation. I address the book’s limitations and suggest local policies and practices that recognize immigrants as legitimate members of the community. I end by considering what a focus on local law enforcement reveals about race, citizenship, and belonging.
