    Introduces Han Hyung-mo as the foremost director of Korean Golden Age cinema, a master of film style, and the maker of postwar era-defining melodramas and women’s pictures that grappled with modernity. Introduces the key concepts of the book (period style, cosmopolitanism), its methodology (transnational American studies), and the scholarly conversations in which it participates (film studies, cultural Cold War in Asia). Proposes that Cold War cosmopolitanism was a period style and a cultural formation that was produced by Americans and South Koreans, working separately and together.
