This chapter contains a series of letters from the Noguchi Museum Archive. Hasegawa writes to Noguchi in the period after Noguchi leaves Japan after his first solo exhibition in August 1950 and then again in January 1951, when Noguchi is planning his return. Hasegawa explores ideas discussed on their trip to temples in Kyoto, Nara, and Kamakura, recounts his life in the postwar period, and relays news of mutual friends in Tokyo. Hasegawa sends anecdotes from his reading on historic Japanese ascetic writers, poets, and painters.
