The coda concludes the book by engaging briefly with the current body of contemporary films set in the colonial era. From the year 2000 onward, the cinematic representation of colonialism in South Korean cinema has shown dramatic changes. The final section explicates the differences by examining the new collective dynamics that emerge in the modern leisure sphere. Films like YMCA Baseball Team are analyzed for their new articulations of horizontal membership among Koreans and possibilities of flexible national identity in the face of colonial modernity.
