  • Introduction: Presenting Hollywood South

    Vicki Mayer

Chapter from the book: Mayer, V. 2017. Almost Hollywood, Nearly New Orleans: The Lure of the Local Film Economy.

In order to understand the longstanding love affairs between regional governments and Hollywood film industries, as well as citizens’ ambivalence toward film incentives, we must delve deeper into the relationships between locations and their cultural production. New Orleans’s rise to become “Hollywood South” thus must be situated both in the regional history of cultural production and in the political economy of film economies globally.
