Stephen Lighthill, ASC, has been a camera operator on film and television projects since the 1960s. Formerly head of the Local 600, the International Cinematographers Guild, Lighthill now oversees the cinematography program at the American Film Institute. Here he outlines the many challenges camera personnel confront as they build their careers and speaks about union efforts to manage the changes taking place in the motion picture industry.
